Can’t Buy or Build Streets?

by MonopolyHQ on October 21, 2009 · 20 comments

Are you getting error messages like:

“oops sorry, some weird error occurred, please try again”

“it looks like someone else has beaten you to do this…”

Maybe you’re in the monopoly city streets dead zone.

I’ve got no fixes for you other than slamming the monopoly city streets development team with this feedback form

And focusing your current efforts outside the deadzone.

Obviously the game can’t continue like this, so please try and get the dev team’s attention even if your game play is just fine.

I reported this problem two days ago, but got no answer yet. 3 of 5 streets that I already have, are not working… too bad.

i wrote a post about some awesome tools that let you play the game more efficiently it all works in the browser and adds buttons to sell buildings with one click, sort properties by price and ROI numbers on buildings. its way useful so check them out!

I have been receiving these error for the last three days:-
“oops sorry, some weird error occurred, please try again”
“it looks like someone else has beaten you to do this…”
Out of my 11 streets 9 are near St Petersburg in Russia, and the other two in Europe. And I have since purchased another street in Norway and another in Europe.

Only the streets in Russia are impacted, I cannot build, demolish, or sell the properties or the street. No offer was made on the streets, nor did I make an offer related to the streets.
The street is described as being owned by me, as it is red, and the street card displays the expected buttons (sell /build).

When I try to build I can select a building, and the cones appear on the screen, it is only when the cone is selected. The error appears.

Based on this I would assume that the games database/s correctly see the owner.

If I think of this from a players perspective I wonder if the games thinks:-
1. The street is part of an offer.
2. The street is owned by one play in one part of the database and by another player in another part of the database.

1.There is no way to review offers, if a feature was available to view offers and retract offers (real or not ) this would identify and resolve such problems in one go.

2.If the game is working perfectly then the areas of the database/s storing streets owners could be compared. If different owners appears for the same street, that could mean that those streets are the ones which are causing the problem. Then define which entry is the master entry and change the others, should solve the problem.

Instead of simply complaining, I hope the above can help resolve my and many other players problems.

it happened to me too. and i tried to sell the street then buy it back at once from the monopoly. then it went ok again.

but i saw many free streets in usa ( dead zone as you called ) but it’s unable to purchase them too.

I can confrim the same bug BUT…..I am not within that zone and it is happening to all my streets on the eastern seaboard of the US. Started three days ago same as everyone else.

Oh thats dissapointing news quarien. I really don’t know what those MCS devs are up to. And sadly…. Nor do they. :(

Its an interesting error, as it will allow player login, and even do so correctly. We may even be a tad quick to blame MCS, when it could be an open map error.. or similar.
I don’t know, but like others my care factor is taking a beating right now… Letting that rent pile up in my account so I can enjoy giving most of it back to the bank in fine cards. Or trawling the most heavily played streets on the planet for one available to buy…. Awesome. Fun factor 0.

Watch the amazing Hasbro create and destroy an online gaming community right before your eyes!!

Not an OpenStreetsMap error. OSM just provided the data ages ago, all the game data resides in Hasbro’s servers.

Uuuh! This sucks. Such a good game – with so many bugs and fails. Really sad!

All my streets are in the dead zone. Can’t remove anything. 1 my street is in the offer for more than 2 weeks. But i can bid for the streets.

My NINJAKUN cann’t bid is Singapore but have one street outside the zone to evolve.

Sent 2 e-mail. No response.

My message to MCS.
Your marketing concept was brilliant. You execution is alienating millions of potential buyers of your new product. Unless you only plan to sell your game to the continental US and Western Europe in which case you are fine.

A simple acknowledgment of the problem will be fine. “sorry it’s broken. no we are not going to fix it.” At least then we can stop wasting out time.

I think it is time to start a TwitterStorm, they may pay attention then.

Yeah, I was getting an error when trying to buy a couple long ones on the eastern US coast. I emailed them about it, too, and got no response yet.

A pity. I hope they get it sorted out.

Hey, on the subject of Twitter.. I am a complete Twitter noob, but it seems that the MCS rep stopped replying to ppl about a month ago?? Is that correct?

13 MonopolyHQ October 23, 2009 at 10:13 am

nope, no replies.. their last reply was to me like a month ago, and then silence… the best bet is to go through their official feedback form

Very excited to report all my streets working again!!!!!!!!!!!

15 MattG October 23, 2009 at 1:52 am

I can also confirm that I can build on my Aussie streets again. Unfortunately there still seems to be a cap of around 415ish buidlings per street.

16 Barneyrubble October 25, 2009 at 3:48 pm

I to can now build demolish sell and buy streets and properties once again, and my revenue is nolonger on the slide. Thanks you.

I do still have one problem which I am not able to resolve;
When I want to demolish a building , I can do it once, but If I want to demolish a second building I need to logoff and back on again.

Any ideas?

I had the same problem, I stopped using IE8 and started to use Mozilla Firefox again. I can buy, sell and build without using the refresh at all. Firefox also speeds up the map building and general game play
Finally Glad to be able to play the game again and Gold creek you picked up on exactly on what I was taking about with the dead zone Well done with your map.

They’re working on it now. Quote from the site:

The site is down for maintenance from 2AM EST today, for approximately 4-8 hours. We intend to repair out of sync streets and ensure the data within the game is stable before we implement further improvements we have planned for the game.

Thank you for your continued patience as we work to improve the game.

19 Legor October 26, 2009 at 4:46 pm

20 MindObserver October 26, 2009 at 6:45 pm
